The Senior Citizens "Club" was organized on November 1st, 1966 with 7 members, meeting at Christ Episcopal Church. It was organized              as an outgrowth of a Community Action Council initiative under Dr. Vivian Lewis and Maggie McKnight became the Founder/Director.

In September of 1967 they opened their first thrift shop at 409 E. Main Street that formerly housed Greenes Shoe Repair owned by charter member Mrs. Eva Greene. Mrs. Maggie McKnight was instrumental in the growth of the senior center and became incorporated on 4-26-68

as a non profit agency.  In 1968 Mrs. Edna McClelland was Program Chair, Mr. Dewey Jameson was the GASCC first Membership President and Mrs. Maggie McKnight was GASCC Coordinator. On January 1st, 1969 they moved downtown to the old Salvation Army building

located at 90 S. Detroit Street. In less than 2 years time they outgrew this building and moved to 117 East Main Street in 1971, formerly Pattersons Appliances.  In 1972 GASCC they found a home in the former Methodist Parsonage at 101 W. Second Street.

In 1975 The City of Xenia offered the seniors use of a house at 108 W. Second St. $35,000 was raised by the senior center to remodel

the house. This was 'home" to the seniors until a new 10,000 sq. foot building was built on the land of the old Central Junior High School.

Naomi Trout, Executive Director since 1976, was instrumental in the opening of the brand new building located at 130 East Church St.

Mrs. Trout spent 27 years as Executive Director until 2003 when she retired and moved to California. Mrs. Trout passed away in 2025 but her memory lives on in our library.  In 2003 Mrs. Judy Baker became the new XARSC Executive Director, and in 2017, under Judy's hard work and leadership, XARSC became a partner in the Xenia REACH Project along with the Xenia YMCA, Central State, Clark State and Kettering

Health Network. Ground was broken in 2018 and The REACH CENTER opened in January 2019.

REACH = Recreation, Education, Activity, Community and Health.
